Eating Your Oils, The Benefits
I am in the middle of running my “Eat Your Oils” campaign for Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) Awareness month. This said, I had a great question the other day. Someone said they read online that cooking or baking with essential oils (the pure ones) can be dangerous. Well, no. Not really. Like any ingredient, if you use too much- sure, there can be problems.
But, when using pure essential oils, there should not be any issues- only health benefits. Now, certain oils can conflict with medications or health issues, which is why you should always check with your doctor before starting any campaign, new drug, new supplement, or using an essential oil. This is no different than checking to see if you can eat grapefruit with high-blood pressure medicine (which usually has a counter-reaction). The doTerra science blog also has amazing information on essential oils and safety. You can read more here: http://doterrascienceblog.com/essential-oil-metabolism/
Now, onto IBS and an essential oil that may help relieve your symptoms. Vanilla Bean essential oil can have an amazing impact on your IBS. I tend to add two drops of vanilla essential oil and lemon essential oil to my tea or to my water at the end of my day. It is refreshing and I enjoy the many health benefits. But, speaking about IBS specifically, vanilla essential oils helps reduce nausea. Many people with IBS have both constipation and nausea as part of their sub-symptoms. Vanilla not only is a huge reliever of depression symptoms, which can come along when we are not feeling well, but it helps to reduce feeling sick to one’s stomach. Plus it takes good.
