The Fruits with the Most Sugar

I recently read an email about fruit and sugar. The email questioned if high-sugar fruits were worth eating. Yes! Natural sugar metabolizes differently than processed sugar. If you have a choice between a cup of fresh pineapple vs. a slice of sugar-free pie, go with the pineapple!

To clarify, sugar as it occurs in whole foods is necessary and should be embraced. The foods highest in added sugars frequently are higher in added fats, sodium, refined flours, and animal products, making them unhealthy for a variety of reasons and not just because of the added sugars. So, sugar in fruit is good, sugar in everything else is bad because it is extracted and used in a non-natural and processed manner.

To answer your questions, here are the top 3 fruits with the highest amount of sugar in them. And no, this doesn’t mean you should stop eating them! This is for information purposes only.

1. Apples, yes apples! One apple is equal to 8.75 teaspoons of sugar.

2. Pomegranate. This fruit has 6 teaspoons of sugar in it.

3. Bananas. 5.75 teaspoons of sugar per a medium banana, which is also a diet staple for Sumo wrestlers!
