Get Sun-Kissed …. Tan Safely
Here’s a few simple, affordable ways to keep toxic overload down while you’re enjoying summertime fun! It’s not as difficult as you think to make these products. And isn’t it worth your peace of mind knowing your feeding your skin the good stuff…. so you can glow… inside and out?
Sunsafe SkinSafe Sunscreen Feed and protect your skin the good stuff and stop spending so much $$ on those expensive skin products that are toxic to your body! When shopping for natural oils, check out THRIVE MARKET. Ingredients:
- ½ cup Almond or Olive Oil
- ¼ cup Coconut Oil (natural SPF 4)
- ¼ cup Beeswax
- 2 Tbsp. Zinc Oxide (be sure to get a non-nano version that won’t be absorbed into the skin. NOTE!! Don’t inhale the powder; wear a mask if necessary.)
- 2 Tbsp. Shea Butter (natural SPF 4-5)
- 1 tsp. Red Raspberry Oil
- 1 tsp. Vitamin E Oil
- Up to 1 tsp. Carrot Seed Oil
- doTERRA oils*
- 15 drops doTERRA Lavendar
- 3 drops doTERRA Myrrh
- 10 drops doTERRA Helicrysum* Note: Do not use citrus essential oils in your sunscreen, as they may increase sensitivity to sunlight. ** Do not use helichrysum essential for kids under 12 years oil as they may be way to sensitive to it..
Directions:
- Combine ingredients except zinc oxide in a pint sized or larger glass jar.
- Fill a medium saucepan with a couple inches of water and place over medium heat.
- Put a lid on the jar loosely and place in the pan with the water.
- Ingredients in the jar will start to melt as the water heats.
- Stir occasionally.
- When all ingredients are completely melted, add the zinc oxide, stir in well.
- Remove from heat and add essential oils.
- Pour into a new jar to store; small pint mason jars work great.
- Stir a few times as it cools.
Additional Notes:
- The recipe about has an approximate SPF of 15
- Use as you would regular sunscreen. Best if used within 6 months.
- Reapply after sweating or swimming; this sunscreen is not completely waterproof
- Do not inhale the Zinc Oxide (use a mask if necessary)
- Adding more Zinc Oxide will increase the SPF
- Beeswax will make a thicker sunscreen, use less to make smooth sunscreen
- Store in a cool, dry place or in the fridge
- Store in a small canning jar
An Even Faster Way To Make Sunscreen
If you want a simpler version just use Coconut Oil and Shea Butter with Red Raspberry Seed and Carrot Seed Oil or a couple tablespoons of non-nano Zinc oxide will work for moderate exposure.
Too Much .. Too Late???
Even with preventative measures such as hats and sunscreen, we all find ourselves getting burned at times. If you are careful and work to sooth the burn quickly, then you can help prevent more serious problems later on in life. Once you notice that you have gotten burned, I recommend one or both of these two essential oil remedies. Sunburn Soother Ingredients:
- 3 drops doTERRA Melaleuca
- 1 tsp. of coconut oil
Directions: Apply using fingers; repeat 2-3 times daily until skin has healed. or try this….. Sunburn Spray Ingredients:
- 1 ounce of distilled pater
- ½ teaspoon of aloe Vera oil or fractionated coconut oil
- (Note) this is different than regular coconut oil see detail here.
- 2-3 drops doTERRA of Lavender essential oil
- 1 drop of doTERRA Helichrysum* essential oil *Do not use helichrysum essential oil in this spray for kids under 12 years oil; they may be way to sensitive to the effects.
Directions: Pour all ingredients into a small glass spray bottle (do not use plastic). Spritz on skin as often as needed until skin is healed
