Killing A Sugar Addiction.

Have you seen Dr. Axe’s video on sugar addiction? If not, you should watch it. It’s 7 minutes of how to really navigate being owned by sugar and breaking free from it. Does this mean you will never touch a piece of chocolate or cake again? No. Hopefully, however, you will be able to eliminate most sugar from your diet. Hey, we’re human…. as bad as sugar is for you, it pays to be realistic and understand that forbidding foods from yourself will only make you crave them more.

This said, my book really helps you eliminate sugar from your life at a 99.5 percentage. The key to beating sugar is to really taper down the first couple of days and then to focus on blood sugar balancing foods, which are foods high in fiber, healthy fats, and protein. Oh, and vitamin B12 helps tremendously too.

Sugar cravings will feel amplified for the first couple of days that you commit to the plan. This is normal, which is why I suggest slowly tapering down. Sugar is a powerful drug… yes, drug. It is additive and therefore I consider it a drug. Hey, it does more harm than good on the body so I’m not too far off!

In my book, we explore more about what foods are high in fiber, healthy fats, and proteins. I also talk about the natural ways you can entertain a sugar craving with alternative foods. Yes, alternative foods that really help you kick sugar.

One of the biggest sugar addictions in the country is soda pop and health waters. Yes, health waters. A Vitamin Water has as much sugar as a soda. Labels can be deceiving. If you make one small change over the next three days, cut out the soda pop. Instead, try a fizz water with frozen berries and herbs, like rosemary or basil. I even like well-chilled flat water with lemon and orange zest and a spring of thyme. The lemon zest actually can help “cure” a quick sugar craving and the water, as you know, offers tons of other benefits.

I’ll be offering more blog posts in the upcoming weeks on sugar addiction. In the meantime, feel free to connect with me on Facebook and submit your questions!
