Lime Zest & Health
I’ve been talking about the benefits of cooking with Lime essential oils this week. As part of IBS awareness month, the past two blog posts have featured essential oil recipes that focus on lime oils and the digestive track. But what about if you don’t want to cook with essential oils?
Not to worry. Lime zest and juice has just as many benefits as essential lime oil. As I said, the acid in limes helps to clear up mucus in the digestive track, and it promotes gut health. If you’re not a fan of essential oils, there are plenty of ways to incorporate the natural oil from limes into your diet.
One of my favorite ways of adding natural lime oil into my diet is by grading the rind of the lime into water. I like to make mocktails that both taste good and benefit my health. If you start the day, everyday, with the lime mocktail noted below – your gut will start to see improvement.
Roseann’s Lime Mocktail
16 ounces sparkling water
3 tablespoons graded lime zest
1/4 cup lime juice OR 3 drops Essential Lime Oil
1 cup smashed, fresh strawberries or raspberries.
1 cup crushed ice
Combine all the ingredients together in a cocktail shaker. Shake heavily for a minuet. Pour. Enjoy.
