5 Steps to Stop Using Sugar

“Never be afraid to do something new. Remember, amateurs built the ark; professionals built the titanic.” ~ Anonymous

Ok, sugar is the same as any addiction. There is a process, a detox, a recovery, learning to live without the substance and enjoy life. I can’t fix your sugar addiction in 5 steps, or stop it, but I can help you overcome it by starting off on the right path.  Thus, here are 5 ways to “stop” the sugar craving process and start the decision to truly live sugar-free so you can be healthier, happier and live longer. Stop using sugar today with these five tips.

1. Drink plenty of water. It will make you feel fuller and naturally cut down cravings. If you’re drinking half your body weight in water ounces, you will hardly have time to crave sugar.

2. Sea vegetables are a must. They help change your hormonal make-up and your palette so the sugar cravings are reduced. These veggies are also great for your immune system and your brain.

3. Say “bye-bye” to processed foods and meats. They have tons of salt in them and they mess with your metabolic system. They also tend to hide sugar. Processed foods lead to poor health and weight gain, which leads to diabetes and other issues.

4. Stop adding sugar to coffee. Try coffee with almond milk or other non-dairy milk and skip the sugar. It is a small change but it makes a big difference.  If possible, try eliminating coffee all together.

5. Focus on eating several meals all day long. Yes, eat! This helps your body’s ecology and avoids dips in blood sugar. If you can add-in more gluten-free, grain-like seeds (quinoa, millet, buckwheat, or amaranth) during these several mini-meals,  your body will produce more serotonin and you will feel better and sleep better- and be less sugar dependent. Be sure to include protein in every meal too!
