The Today Show on Sugar
I was so pleased to see The Today Show on NBC launch a national sugar awareness campaign. They are encouraging everyone in the country to go sugar-free for 10 days. While it is a start in the right direction, there is more to living a sugar free life than 10 days without sugar.
Straight from The Today Show’s website, ” The American Heart Association recommends 6 teaspoons per day for women and 9 for men. And the Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee, the group that makes recommendations for the Dietary Guidelines for Americans, recently suggested capping added sugar at 12 teaspoons a day for both adult men and women.
While consuming moderate amounts of added sugar is fine, excessive amounts can cause not-so-sweet side effects like weight gain and mood swings. That being said, we’re doing a little experiment: TODAY is officially kicking the sweet stuff for 10 days — and we’d love everyone to join in.”
Those of you who know me, know that I’ve been helping people improve their health through better eating and fitness for years. If you want to start with the Today Show’s campaign, that is a start in the right direction – but please, please sign up for my newsletter to get my Sugar Free Summer emails, which are sent out each and every Friday. They contain completely free recipes that are, what else, sugar-free, and they contain NO sales pitches.
To your health,
Roseann
